I don't know if I can answer this one completely but from my experience, being a mother of a child that has a physical disability as well as some cognitive imparement, that the answer to this question is yes they do. My son for background is one of a twin. At about a month of age, due to prematurity, the one twin suffered a lack of oxygen leaving him with a life long disability. One day,while on a family trip in the van, the child with the disability, at about age seven, unable to sit properly, fell over onto his twin. The twin without the disability, as would any sibling, yelled at him and said he was sick of it. The twin with the disability responded back in a quiet voice...this could have been you.

We all fell silent in the car.
